Journalism Education Reconnected

The School of Journalism at the HU University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht, the Netherlands is proudly hosting the 35th Annual General Meeting of the European Journalism Training Association in October 2025!

The School of Journalism in Utrecht is the oldest journalism school in the Netherlands. It was founded during the roaring sixties and became one of the co-founders of the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA) in 1990.
Hogeschool Utrecht (HU) is among the largest Universities of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands and located in the heart of the country. The beautiful medieval city of Utrecht is home to two universities and has a truly academic atmosphere, hosting more than 70,000 students from 125 countries.

The AGM in Utrecht will take place from 15–17 October. It begins on Wednesday with pre-conference meetings and networking opportunities. The Annual General Meeting itself will be held on Thursday morning, followed by a special cultural programme in the afternoon to celebrate our 35th anniversary.

On Friday, the School of Journalism will host a Journalism Forum titled Journalism Education Reconnected. After a keynote presentation, we will explore the key challenges facing journalism education today—responding to the changing media environment, global challenges, and the mindset of Gen Z students.

All participants should register using the form below—preferably before the summer holidays, but no later than September 15, 2025. Be sure to check the early bird benefits and other important information further down the page.

Early bird registration advantages

  1. Utrecht is a popular and expensive city for accommodation. We’ve arranged a special offer for participants, so be sure to book your stay in time. More information can be found in the FAQ.
  1. The Jubilee Event and Dinner on Thursday have limited capacity. Reserve your ticket early to secure your spot!
  1. If you’re planning to extend your stay and enjoy more of our beautiful city, keep in mind that the AGM coincides with the start of the Autumn break. This is a great time for extra activities in Utrecht and nearby, but it also means increased demand for accommodation.

EJTA Recipe Book

As part of the 35-year celebration of EJTA, we are creating a special recipe book featuring dishes from our member schools across Europe. Each school is invited to contribute a recipe—whether it’s a student favourite, a beloved local dish, or a national specialty!

Jubilee Photos

A jubilee is not complete without photo memories! While EJTA has built up a solid archive from the past ten years, we have very few images from earlier days.

If you have a great photo from an EJTA event between 1990 and 2015, we’d love to include it in our collection. Please scan your photo at the highest possible resolution and send it to: ejta2025agm@hu.nl.

Be sure to include a short note telling us who or what is in the photo and what you remember about the event.

Let’s bring our shared history to life!
