Nationalism can have a positive and joyful side, as we saw during last summer’s football World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico, where fans proudly supported their nations. But nationalism can also create big rivalries in football, with one of the most famous being the rivalry between Holland and Germany. Our Jake Foreman went to a game to see how football can unite people, and to find out how this form of nationalism develops at a local level.
