New Redesign Of Amsterdam’s Inner ring: What Changed?

The Marnixstraat, a street on the Inner ring where trams and bikes ride.

AMSTERDAM – After 10 years of remodelling and redesigning, the Inner ring of Amsterdam is finally finished. On the road bicycles now have much more space to ride, the public transport is more accessible to pedestrians and cars are only allowed to drive 30 km/h. But this is a fundamental change for the capital. How does this change actually look like and what does it mean? Veronika Stefanova went out on the street to check it out and talked to Luca Bertolini, professor of Urban Planning at the University of Amsterdam, with a specialisation of Mobility in the City.

The sign reads: ‘Bicycle street. Cars are guests.’
