Laughing into the conversation: Queer comedy night on identity, acceptance and taboo

Adi Parmar is performing at the comedy night.

More and more queer comedians are bringing queer identities and experiences to the stage. Yet this growing visibility comes at a time when acceptance of openly queer identities is declining. According to the international Ipsos LGBTQ+ Pride Survey, conducted across 23 countries, acceptance has fallen by around 8 percent over the past five years. Can comedy be a good way to make difficult topics more discussable? Reporter Josephine Meijaard went to a queer comedy night in Utrecht and spoke to Adi Parmar, one of the comedians.

About The Author

Josephine Meijaard
