Is Brussels as a forerunner in the use of SAF in combination with the Central Europe pipeline system a model for achieving the climate goals set out in described in the Greendeal?

Brussels Airlines was the first airline to fly with Sustainable Avuation fuel on 1 January 2023, by using a CEPS pipeline system. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a new aviation fuel made from 100% renewable waste and residual raw materials, such as used cooking oil. During its life cycle, SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 80% compared to fossil aviation fuel. All aircraft at Brussels Airport are supplied with paraffin using a CEPS pipeline system. A CEPS pipeline system is a sustainable way of transporting fuel that does not require the use of polluting vehicles. NATO’s CEPS pipeline system, has been authorised to transport SAF through it since 1 January 2023, and Brussels Airlines is making direct use of it. As a forerunner in the use of SAF in combination with the Central Europe pipeline system, Brussels Airlines is sustainably ahead of the curve. Are they an example that other airlines will follow? And is this more sustainable way of aviation the way to achieve the climate goals set out in the Greendeal?
